STELA 1 TEXTS

HIEROGLYPHIC TEXTS OF STELA 1

The hieroglyphs of Stela 1 are carved more shallowly than on most stelae.

A close-up photograph of the rear text.

The large glyph at the top of the stela indicates that what follows
is a long-count date. A Baktun is 144,000 days or 20 Katuns,
a Katun 7,200 days, or 20 Tuns, a Tun 360 days or 18 Uinals, a Uinal is 20 days.

The inscription on the left side begins with the name of the king,
Smoke-Imix-Kawil Divine Copan Ahau [KAK-NAB-KAWIL XUKPI AHAU].
